The South Carolina native graduated from Clemson University with a Degree in Engineering. He was a Structural Sales Engineer for Bethlehem Steel Company in Atlanta for 25 years.

After retirement he was President of the American Institute of Steel Construction, Inc. During World War I he served as an Engineer with the Corps of Engineers in the Philippines. Survivors are his wife, Mary Alley Brown Ross of Atlanta; one son, Dwight Ross, and one daughter, Dancy Ross Thomas, both of Atlanta; and three grandchildren, Lisa Thomas, Polly Ross and Mark Thomas, all of Atlanta; two sisters, Elizabeth Abbey of Charlotte, N.C.; and Gladys Reeves of Greenwood, and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held in the chapel of the Cathedral St. Philip in Atlanta at 4 p.m.
