Hi friends,

Now that I don't have anymore questions to ask about my 93 red Miata, I am working on something else :)

I wrote a simple program that looks into craigslist car postings and re-organize them into relevant categories. Basically it filters the Miata into three categories, NA, NB and NC simply based on the model year. I tried with a couple of other cars and it is giving some good results so far.

Please let me know what you think, you can change the location and the car make ;) It may not be the best sub-category but since it is not completely ready, I just want to share it with NA guys

The homepage (defaulting to sfbay for now) : http://www.rideslist.com

The Mazda and the available regions so far (kind of random, please ask if you want yours) : http://www.rideslist.com/sfbayMiatachange.html

Thanks!

Neat. If possible I'd make it where you could expand/collapse or hide generations of cars as desired to clean up the list if you're not interested in a particular group. The tags ("turbo", etc) are a nice touch, but don't seem to have provisions for, say, a turbo convertible.

On a non-technical note, I'd recommend checking in with Craigslist if you haven't already to make sure they're not going to get the lawyers on you and force you to take it down before investing too much time and effort in it.

Thats dang pretty cool!!!! It is a lot like Searchtempest.com (formally Craigshelper.com), but a hell of a lot better!!! Any chances for the state of New York to pop up in the locations list????
Good Job Man!!!

and fast...well done

Now, for a Colorado option :)

Awesome. I would spend many hours surfing a site like that. If it has an auto parts section that would be even better. Nice work.

When this is up and running, let everyone know about it by posting in Car Talk or Pricing section? Looks nifty!

Wow, AWESOME! You have two of the biggest cities in my proximity, perfect. I'd like to see a SWFL location though (Fort Myers, Naples), craigslist has one of those.

Great work.

Can you do this to search for just "parts" ?

If you could separate private from stealership listings it would be awesome. Stealerships jack up the price of the car and hate to negotiate. Only bad experiences with them and I am sorry for my honesty.

Well done! I see that you have a year filter with the up/down arrows. It would be really helpful if you could sort by price under each sub-category from lowest to highest or vice-versa.

I agree. This is definitely a great tool, and since it would fit so well with what we generally deal with in Pricing, I'd like to move it there. What I will do since you are anxious to help out your fellow NA'ers so much, is that I will leave a redirect here for an extra length of time so that it's visible here in NA for a while still.:)

Thanks for the tips!;)

Thanks everybody, I really appreciate your feedback!

First thing to keep in mind is that for a couple of reasons, I decided to make it "static". This means that all the pages are plain HTML without any fancy ways to sort or filter for example. I went that route because it was faster to develop and faster to use. I will maybe revisit that later on because it would be great to be able to focus on one or two types for a given model.

Thanks to you, on my immediate todo list:

- Add a couple of locations (State of New York, Colorado, SWFL)
- Add a way to separate private and dealers
- Sort by price in the sub-categories

:)

Hi _Remi, Very Nice Search Tool !!

Can you please include mid-west in the search (Chicago, Milwaukee, Indianapolis and St. Louis would all rock).

IKIGAI

Vancouver BC and Seattle WA Craig's Lists would be great. Lot of Miata.netters up here, lots of rust-free Western WA and BC Miatas listed...

Did I mention I live up here? :)

This would make a great sticky at the top of P&D D. Gene?

Nice! Of course, a way to spend even more money :(

Very nicely done - and a dangerous tool at that (so many cars, so little space). :)

I have added a couple of regions! If you need any other, please send an email :) I will work on the other suggestions later in the week.

I was skeptical until I clicked on your link. Wow! Nice work. If you could add Portland, OR that would be great.

I like how it seperates the ads by year. Adding a Parts section would be awesome as well.

IKIGAI

Yes, this very awesome indeed. I would just be careful how much you add as it could quickly become no less cumbersome than visiting CL itself. Nice work! BTW I second the Portland add. Again, a lot of enthusiasts here are looking and willing to travel outside the rust belt for the right Miata/Porsche/BMW...

A very cool website. I really enjoy this!

My request: Cincinnati and Columbus Ohio.

But wow!! I'm impressed by this site.

Dealers are now highlighted (well, so that you can see them) :)

Canada? Hum, maybe next week-end!

Great program, but a few suggestions: search all "for sale" to get parts, etc.

Also, if you could add Baltimore to the DC search, that would be great!

Baltimore is available in Maryland and a new feature "nearby search" is coming soon!

Thanks!

Please add Albuquerque and Santa Fe :)

I really dig this tool, you did a great job.

Nice, I like it. The only thing I can recommend is being able setup a search for X amount of miles from an area code or even be able to select a whole state.

Such a cool tool. I like the expanded model range now.

IKIGAI

Thanks to Diamond Dave for bringing this thread back to the top. Great tool.

One suggestion would be to allow for screening the listings by dealer or by private seller. I for one like to focus on private sales when searching CL.

But still. Pretty awesome!
