Adding a large glob of aluminum brass or gold and a bunch of string seems to give the tool silky-smooth properties. The Silky Jewel is a Modifier which is used to simulate the Silk Touch enchantment from Vanilla on Tinkers' Construct tools and weapons.

There are numerous methods for obtaining this Silk Touch enchantment. Silk Touch can be obtained by trading with librarian villagers or by rolling the dice on the enchantment table and hoping that the Goddess of Fortune smiles upon you. Like most other enchantments, you could find it inside chests, fishing, or looting.

Silk touch now works. It can acquire these previously non-obtainable blocks: grass block, stone, coal ore, redstone ore, lapis lazuli ore, diamond ore, bookshelves, glass, and ice. Mushroom blocks now drop when mined with Silk Touch.

If you mine the Nether gold ore with Silk Touch enchanted pickaxe and smelt it, you will get one whole ingot which is the most efficient way to mine it. You can also use the Fortune enchantment although it is slightly less efficient than Silk Touch on average.

The only safe approach is to use a silk touch tool – you won't get an infested block, just the equivalent regular version of that block. But the silverfish won't spawn, so you'll be free of danger. You can also just not break the block, of course.
